Paris Saint-Germain are ready to invest up to £250m this summer in an effort make it beyond the Champions League final. They just don’t get it, do they? That club needs moxie, not more money. Or maybe they have finally understood that: because they are said to be mulling over an offer for N’Golo Kanté, a year after they could have had him for a pittance and several years after they could have had him for free. And just to respect the Qatari club’s tradition of being able to impress a lot of the time but not when it really matters, PSG are also said to be keen on Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku.

There are only a select few players who are instantly identifiable by their first names alone – Zlatan, Cristiano, Peter – and reports are emerging are that one such star could be on his way to Manchester United this summer, albeit because Real Madrid no longer seem keen on him. James Rodríguez’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to be working to finesse a move to Old Trafford for his client, who may then have the pleasure of hooking up with another Mendes client, José Mourinho, whose own possible move to Old Trafford has been handled not so much with finesse but rather via a protracted cloak and badger campaign.

Mutters are also concerned about the future of Raphaël Varane, with some whispered asides suggesting the Frenchman will leave Real for Bayern Munich, though why he would do that when Mats Hummels is also said to be headed there and Bayern already have four internationals for their one defensive position is not clear. But Bayern’s incoming boss, Carlo Ancelotti, is a big admirer of Varane as well as being humble enough to know that teams need to be able to defend – which means Hummels, for one, will need to get his act together to get in the team.

That should be pretty much the message for Bojan Krkic, too. The Spaniard is said to be “surprised and disappointed” at only starting three of Stoke’s last 12 games and is contemplating a move away from the Britannia, or the Betting Bowl or whatever we’re supposed to call it now.

Other clubs are said to be interested but here’s the thing, Bojan: if you don’t deliver consistently for them either, you’ll find yourself on their bench too.

That should be pretty much the message to Jordon Ibe, too. The winger once said by fools to be as good as Raheem Sterling is not exactly playing his way into Jürgen Klopp’s future plans, other than the plan involving generating money through a sale, possibly to Watford or Everton.

NEWSFLASH from the ever-hysterical Social Media Outrage Department: some Swansea City fans are irate that, for next season, their club have chosen a kit manufacturer that used to manufacture the kit of Cardiff City. There are unconfirmed claims that the people mouthing off lead fun and interesting lives.

Cardiff City, since we’ve brought them up, are said to be considering the future of their manager Russell Slade, which has got other people considering potential replacements, such as Craig Bellamy, Nigel Pearson, Neil Warnock or Nigel Clough.

The only reason Ronald Koeman does not feature on that list is because he is thought to be intent on seeing out the final year of his contract at Southampton. And then, next year, he will move to Arsenal, unless Arsène Wenger signs a new three-year contract this summer, as one disgraced former Daily Mirror editor claims he might.

Dimitri Payet scooped five gongs at West Ham's annual awards ceremony on Monday night as the Hammers celebrated what will undoubtedly go down as a successful season.

West Ham's star players were joined by Ray Winstone at the London Hilton Hotel but there was no Hollywood style surprises as the Frenchman dominated the evening in his first season at the club.

Payet, whose importance to Slaven Bilic's side was highlighted when by a winter slump while the 29-year-old was out injured, won Hammer of the Year, Players' Player of the Year, Signing of the Season, Top Goalscorer and the Goal of the Season award for his free-kick against Crystal Palace last month.

Hammers stars turned up at the hotel in Park Lane suited and booted for the ceremony, after a season which has seen them still in with a chance of a Champions League spot with three games to play in the Premier League.

And while Payet was barely in his seat as he dominated proceedings, West Ham dished out a number of other individual and team awards.

One of the highlights of the night was a lifetime achievement award for Hammers legend Sir Geoff Hurst.

The former West Ham striker is most famous for his hat-trick in the 1966 World Cup Final but he was honoured for his 13 years at the Boleyn Ground that brought him an incredible 242 goals, as well as his services to the club as an ambassador.

Accepting the award, the 74-year-old said he regretted not finishing his career at the club.

'I am honoured to be given this award from this fantastic football club,' Sir Geoff said. 'The only regret I had was not seeing my time out with the club. I would like to have done that. But it was a great time for the club.

'I was very lucky to play with some great players like Bobby Moore. He was an inspirational player.'

Promising midfielder Reece Oxford, who made seven Premier League appearances for West Ham this season, was named Young Hammer of the Year.

Oxford won the Dylan Tombides Award, which is given to the outstanding academy player at the club, last season. This season the academy gong was given to Ireland Under 17s star Declan Rice.

Reserve goalkeeper Darren Randolph picked up Save of the Year for his triple stop in the 2-1 FA Cup fourth round victory against Liverpool.

Team Performance of the Year was awarded for the fight-back from 2-1 down to win 3-2 at Everton in March, while individual performance of the year went to Michael Antonio for his match-winning display in the 1-0 win over Tottenham in March.

The team performance award was collected by English duo defender Aaron Cresswell and striker Andy Carroll.

Cresswell said: 'We needed the three points at the time so it was a big win. Michail (Antonio) got us a goal back then Diaf (Sakho) equalised with a great header.

'I put a ball up for Andy (Carroll) who nodded it to Dimi (Payet) who obviously finished it off. There's no better feeling than scoring in the final minute so it was a great victory.'

To mark West Ham's move away from the Boleyn Ground to the Olympic Stadium next season, the club also picked the best goal scored at the stadium, which went to Paulo Di Canio's incredible volley against Wimbledon in 2000.

Before the awards ceremony got under way manager Bilic took to the stage to reflect on an excellent first season in charge at the club.

The Croatian said: 'I have loved this season. We expected it to be good. We knew we had potential.

'I spoke to my staff and with a bit of luck we knew we had a chance. Sam (Allardyce) left me a good team and well organised squad.

'Beating Spurs at home was special. It is about the journey we have had. At the start we signed Payet and other good players.

'When you ask me the highlights there are so many. We beat some big teams at the start. I know we will do everything we can to win the final three games.

'The best moment for me was being so strong and solid. We didn't look like we would get beat.'

Juventus name their price for Chelsea and West Ham summer target as move edges closer

JUVENTUS have named their price for Simone Zaza, according to reports in Italy.

By Bruce Archer

The striker is being monitored by Premier League clubs including Chelsea and West Ham.

He looks set to leave the Serie A club this summer after a difficult season.

And, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juve are happy to sell but want £20m (€25m).

The 24-year-old has scored five goals in 17 appearances but he has only started four of those.

Zaza joined Juventus from Sassuola last summer but has been behind Alvaro Morata, Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala for most of the campaign.

Westley - We're confident

Ahead of the Development Squad’s second leg of the Barclays U21 Premier League final with Hull City, Academy director Terry Westley described his cautious optimism ahead of Wednesday’s showdown.

The young Hammers hold a slender 1-0 lead thanks to Djair Parfitt-Williams’ 90th minute winner, under the lights at the Boleyn Ground.

Looking ahead to the second leg, Westley said: “It’s only half-time in the tie. Yes, we hold a 1-0 advantage, but we know we are going to be in for tough game.

“That small cushion will give us the confidence we need and away from home, the pressure will be off us, which I think will help.”

Westley continued to expand on the lessons learnt from the first leg, which saw an impressively strong Hull City side prove different to conquer.

He explained: “They were very resolute, compact and we found it hard to break them down. At some point, they will have to come out and attack us because they need to score, that should give us some opportunities, which we will need to exploit.

“Training has been good. There was a sense that we didn’t quite rise to the occasion in the final, in front of a huge crowd, so that has spurred us on to complete the job.”

The Hammers take on Hull City at the KC Stadium on Wednesday 4 May, kick off is 7pm.
